Received the University of Minnesota Doctoral Dissertation Grant. This
is a competative grant awarded to a student in order to fund a year of
work on their dissertation. From the UofMN website:
The purpose of the Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship (DDF) program is to give
outstanding final-year Ph.D. candidates who are making timely progress toward the
degree--typically those entering their fifth year of graduate study--an opportunity
to complete the dissertation within the upcoming academic year by devoting full-time
effort to the research and writing of the dissertation. Candidates must be nominated
by their graduate program's Director of Graduate Studies (DGS) to an all-University
competition. Up to 50 Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships are awarded annually.

Life in Paris was a hoot, met some good people and heard some amazing lectures. Ironcially, I wrote an acoustic piece while working in the CCMIX studios, for flute and marimba. Aspen is beautiful as usual. The second movement of my third string quartet was premiered last night by a very good quartet, and was well received. Look for the posting of the entire quartet soon.
Official Summer plans: I'll be spending most of July in Paris, France at the Centre de Creation Musicale Iannis Xenakis (CCMIX), followed by a month at the Aspen Music Festival and School in Aspen, Colorado. Premieres in Paris and Aspen.
